- Wang Jin, 18, lost both his hands while operating a malfunctioning hammer machine, but doctors managed to create new ones from the severed remains
A man who had both his hands severed at the wrist in a factory accident has been given new PINCER hands.
Wang Jin, 18, was operating a malfunctioning hammer machine on a night shift last month when his hands were smashed to pieces.
His colleagues rushed him to Xiang Ya Hospital in Changsha, China's Hunan Province on December 11, with the remains of both hands.
After seeing the extent of his injuries, doctors decided to save what they could and make the new pincer-like ones so he still had some movement.
Many of his fingers were too broken to save but some could be, and those were used to rebuild the main bone structure.

Surgeons attached the left little finger onto the right hand along with the remaining right thumb.
Then on the left hand, they removed the middle finger but kept the index finger and ring finger to make another pincer, which was attached to the left wrist.
The procedure took nine hours and Wang Jin can reportedly bend his fingers already.
