'She got it from her mama!' Rihanna reveals the source of her signature attitude in touching tribute to her mother Monica

She's known for her outlandish antics, outrageous ensembles and boundary-pushing lyrics. And now Rihanna has opened up about the source of her rebelliousness, claiming she inherited her trademark attitude from her mother, Monica Braithwaite.

The 25-year-old Stay singer -- who recently ended a tumultuous relationship with Chris Brown -- praised her 'beautiful' mother for teaching her how to be a strong and independent woman in a touching Mother's Day tribute.

Posting a portrait of Monica on her Instagram profile on Sunday to mark the occasion, the Barbadian beauty wrote: 'Her attitude Rihanna, she got it from her mama!!!.... Happy Mother's Day beautiful!! What a lucky little b***h I am to have come from you!

'You showed me real strength, how to be independent, how to love and be loved, not to judge people or their situations, how to forgive, how to learn from every mistake I make, how to be hospitable, how to do my makeup, cook, clean, not to lower my standards for anything or anyone!'

Rihanna also mentioned her late grandmother, Dolly, in the message, adding: 'DOLLY taught you so well, I can only imagine how incredibly proud of you she is!!! I am who I am because that's all I've known!!

'Thank you for all that you've endured to make sure I got here, with a smile!! I could never repay you, you're PRICELESS!!! My gem!!! #mommy #happymothersday #mamasgal #mynumber1,' she finished.

Earlier this year, the hitmaker confessed that the only person she fears in the world is her mother.

She admitted: 'I'm not afraid of any person in this world, but my mother, I'm terrified of her. She called me two days ago and reeled me in about two naked pictures [my pal] Melissa [Forde] put up on Instagram, a sneak peek from a photo book she's making about me.

'She went crazy on me, I was like, embarrassed. I felt like I got my a** whipped in front of my class at school! She humbled the f**k out of me.'

Monica divorced Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, when the singer was 14 years old. Rihanna has three older half-siblings from her father's prior relationships, including sisters Kandy and Samantha and brother Jamie.

The Diamonds singer also has two younger brothers, Rajad and Rorrey. On Wednesday, she was snapped shopping with Rajad at a Best Buy in New York City and later captioned an Instagram photo of the pair: 'Spent the day with my favorite guy!!!! @rjfenty96 #bestdayever.'
