Former Isidingo actress Lesego Motsepe was found dead in her flat in Randburg, Johannesburg on Monday. Her body was discovered by her brother Moemise Motsepe at 11am and at 1pm pramedics confirmed that she had died of natural causes.In 2011 on World Aids Day the actress made a public announcement about her HIV status. She had been living with the disease since 1998. Since the public announcement, Lesego used her star power to draw awareness about HIV and AIDS through her work as an AIDS ambassador. For more than 10 years, Lesego played the role of the loveable and often troubled Lettie Matabane on the soapie Isidingo.
After her role ended she found her calling in motivational speaking.
“For those of you who want to honour Lesego, her family has a simple request,” said family spokesperson Onkgopotse JJ Tabane.
“Honour her example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Lesego Motsepe and give her a wink while speaking words of courage declaring life to lifeless situations.”
Lesego is survived by her mother, Ivy Skhosana and two brothers, Andile Skosana and Moemise Motsepe and numerous nieces, nephews, her spiritual family and the broader family.
According to produces at SABC, her former colleagues from Isidingo have gathered at her family’s home in Protea North Soweto, where they will also discuss the funeral arrangements. – DRUM reporter
