Members of both gangs hand over weapons and phones they were keeping illegally in Izalco prison as a means of maintaining the peace established by their treaty

The Catholic Church also over saw the treaty's implementation in March of 2012 

Last year the US Treasury declared MS-13 a 'transnational criminal organization'

The country estimates that over 60,000 men belong to either gang 

Both gangs have a large presence in the United States
